Hazard recognition is a necessary first step in keeping our workers safe and ensuring they go home at the end of the day. However, recognizing hazards before work begins or during work is not as easy, intuitive, or straightforward as we would like to believe. The good news is that research has shown that we can improve our ability to recognize hazards by using tools to train our brains to stay alert and look for visible and hidden dangers on a worksite. This webinar will explore how a person identifies a hazard, why some hazards are missed, and a tool used to increase the likelihood of recognition.
Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- Explain the importance of hazard recognition
- List two areas of the brain used when recognizing hazards
- List the most common types of hazards recognized and missed
- Describe why some hazards are easier to see than others
- Demonstrate how to use the energy wheel
