Developing a Healthcare Safety Management System, Electrical Safety

Join us on Jan 9, 2025 at 8:00pm (20:00) ET

Available until: Jan 31, 2026

Boasting a 7.6 Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), healthcare in the United States does not lead the charge in workplace safety. It is heavily regulated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) via the Joint Commission (TJC). Unless a significant regulatory event exists (severe injury, fines, etc.), attaining OSHA compliance is primarily reactive. CMS and TJC concur and state that all healthcare facilities shall comply with OSHA and all other authorities having jurisdiction (EPA, NFPA, etc.), but it stops there. TJC surveys have little to no focus on workplace safety, and the areas where the highest-risk work is performed are ignored. Those areas and the associates discussed in this presentation are in Facilities Management.

How does an effective and sustainable safety initiative take root without (1) policies, programs, and processes, (2) training and continuing education, and (3) a poor safety culture?

During this webinar, our lecturer will share their journey on how their team developed and deployed a sustainable electrical safety initiative for one of the largest healthcare systems in the United States (35 sites), spanning four states.

Objectives

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify challenges in healthcare that make initiative development difficult and how to navigate through them
  2. Develop a safety initiative and understand what is needed to move the initiative forward
  3. Develop and deploy elements of an effective electrical safety initiative
  4. Sustain current and future initiatives with program review and retrospective lessons learned
