Despite the best efforts of our profession, personal protective equipment continues to be utilized as a last line of defense against workplace hazards. Millions of people today in the US alone use respirators on their job to protect against inhalation hazards. Because of the connection between workplace hazards and their control, Industrial Hygienists are often tasked with overseeing a respiratory protection program (RPP). A massive undertaking with an RPP can be the required annual fit testing.
Respirator fit testing has some confusing aspects. There are qualitative and quantitative methods, and the quantitative methods include two very different technologies (CNC and CNP). There are also several logistical considerations. During this webinar, we will discuss the OSHA-approved respirator fit testing methods, how to best use them, and their benefits and limitations. We will go through different scenarios and identify the most appropriate method.
Objectives
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
- List all OSHA-approved respirator fit test methods.
- Describe one benefit and one limitation of each method.
- Select the most appropriate method for a given scenario.
