Worker on ground from fall with first aid kit

Accidents and the Blame Game

Presented: Jan 25, 2024  Available until: Jan 31, 2025

When a workplace accident occurs, the investigation usually focuses on the individual and the errors made, blaming them for forgetfulness, inattention, or moral weakness. The investigation rarely delves deep enough to understand the true reason why the accident occurred – culture, intention, or simply being human. This is why accepting that humans will make mistakes, understanding the ways and reasons they make them, and having strategies to combat them will help occupational, health, and safety professionals combat exposures that would otherwise be left on the table. This webinar will focus on helping you understand the difference between human error, at-risk behavior, and reckless behavior and their impact on safety.

Objectives

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe how human behavior impacts safety through the accident pyramid
  2. List the three behaviors that lead to risk
  3. Describe why humans err
  4. List the greatest behavior safety challenge
  5. Describe how a positive safety culture can help keep our employees safe
