The most comprehensive texts available on the current practice of industrial hygiene. Dr. Perkins has done an excellent job of editing the text so that there is minimal or no duplication between the chapters by the various authors. The contributors and reviewers did a fantastic job of presenting the material in a clear and precise manner. The texts present technical information important to the practicing industrial hygienist in a straightforward manner.
Volume 1 focuses on recognizing, evaluating, and controlling chemical agents. Topics include an overview of industrial hygiene and workplace diseases, as well as tools and methods for assessing workplace hazards.
Volume 2 provides insight into the biological aspects of industrial hygiene. It includes chapters on the respiratory system, dermal exposures, ergonomics, epidemiology, and biological agents. This is a good occupational toxicology text and an instruction manual for evaluating biological hazards.
Volume 3 is devoted to controlling the hazards of chemical agents. The main focus is ventilation, but it also reviews respiratory protection and personal protective equipment, and describes administrative risk management tools.
We believe Modern Industrial Hygiene is the highest-quality, comprehensive text on industrial hygiene on the market today. The series provides basic information on most industrial hygiene topics and is relatively easy to read. We don't recommend purchasing if you already have a good library or own The Industrial Environment: Its Evaluation and Control.

This is considered to be the original "White Book." It was originally published by NIOSH and has been updated twice by the AIHA.
An excellent source of industrial hygiene information, but it is a bit out of date. It can be downloaded for free from the CDC-NIOSH Publications website.
We call this the "Little White Book." It is a short list of facts and information on each industrial hygiene subject. It is great for reviewing information, but it won't help much if you haven't studied the material in another text.

The basic text for noise and hearing protection. It is a good investment for your IH library, but not absolutely necessary for the exam.
A contemporary air sampling practices and procedures book. Theory chapters cover a broad array of critical topics, including sampling strategies in the workplace and the community, particle and gas phase interactions, size-selective health hazard sampling, and calibration of gas and vapor samplers and aerosol samplers.
