Radon: The Risks Add Up

Radon, a naturally occurring radioactive gas, poses significant health risks when accumulated in enclosed spaces. While much attention has been given to radon exposure in residential settings, its presence in occupational environments demands equal scrutiny. Safety professionals play a crucial role in safeguarding workers' health and mitigating occupational hazards. During this webinar, we will highlight the exposure limits and guidelines for radon in occupational environments safety professionals need to be familiar with.

Objectives

Upon completion, participants will be able to:  

1. Identify the characteristics of radon gas and its behavior in enclosed environments.
2. Identify the primary sources of radon exposure in different settings.
3. Name the health effects associated with radon exposure.
4. List the regulatory exposure limits and guidelines for radon in occupational environments.
5. Describe the use of radon detection and mitigation strategies in occupational safety practices.

Kyle Winkler, MS, CIH, CSP

Instructor

Mr. Winkler is an Industrial Hygienist for one of the largest universities in the country and has over 12 years of professional safety experience in both the utility and higher education fields. Mr. Winkler obtained his Master’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety and holds the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certifications. Mr. Winkler is also the program manager for the University’s emergency response, respiratory protection, safety training development, and chemical monitoring programs.
