First Aid / CPR and Bloodborne Pathogens

As OESH Professionals, it is imperative to know basic first aid and how to respond to accidents if and when they do happen. As the Occupational Safety and Health Administration website states, “It is a requirement of OSHA that employees be given a safe and healthy workplace that is reasonably free of occupational hazards. However, it is unrealistic to expect accidents not to happen. Therefore, employers are required to provide medical and first aid personnel and supplies commensurate with the hazards of the workplace. The details of a workplace medical and first aid program are dependent on the circumstances of each workplace and employer.”

These requirements depend mainly on the size of the worksite and the proximity of medical treatment to the workplace or worksite and can be found in 29 CFR.1910.151, Subpart K (General Industry) and 29 CFR 1926.23, Subpart C and 29 CFR 1926.50, Subpart D detail Construction Industry specifics.

During this webinar, we will take you through first aid basics and kits. We will also discuss the closely related 1910.1030, Subpart Z – Bloodborne pathogens, with regards to universal precautions. 

NOTE:  This is not a training to gain certification in first aid but a review of regulatory requirements of first aid, basic treatment, and bloodborne pathogens. It is not intended to be an all-inclusive training either. There are currently 29 OSHA-approved state plans. Please review any specific plan for your state for more stringent requirements that should be followed. 

Objectives

Upon completion, participants will be able to:  

1. Develop a first-aid program following basic regulatory requirements and recommendations for first aid
2. Prepare for incidents and injuries
3. List how the use of CPR and AEDs impact outcomes
4. Identify bloodborne pathogens and protect yourself from them

Ms. Forester has more than 30 years of construction experience including general contracting, construction management, hazardous materials, and demolition. 15 of those years have been in construction and manufacturing safety. She is currently the Regional Safety Manager in Texas and Florida for the largest US insulation contractor.
