4th Time and Passed!
Took the exam today and received a preliminary pass. Just like [another member] said, don't give up. If you are not successful, keep going after it. Read the forums on how others did it and you will see the same study tactics over and over. I would like to thank Rick and Otto for being great instructors. Also, I want to thank Russ for taking the time to talk to me in Salt Lake City. I will always keep the CIH review materials.

Took the CIH yesterday and feels so relieving to receive a "preliminary pass"! Just wanted to say Thank You. Successfully passing the CIH was a distance goal of mine until I took the September 2014 review course in Chapel Hill. I didn't make the February application deadline to take the Spring Test but was accepted to take it for Fall. The review course really gave me direction on my strengths and weaknesses. Rick was instrumental in building my confidence. I could hear his encouragement in the back of my head as I was taking the test. "It's going to be hard, but you can do it!" This summer I reviewed the course lectures and by September I was doing practice problems and practice problems and practice problems!! I read the TLV guide a third time earlier this week. I used the Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene (Plog) to brush up on material I was not as experienced with and the calculation Reference book for some of the equations (specifically radiation). My premium resource membership ran out but I did want to share my story to let other people know they can do it too! I also wanted to Thank Rick and the team for provide a quality product. Also if you do statistics on pass rates for students attending courses I wanted you to have the information. I support Bowen EHS! Thank you again.

Well On 25th October 2015 , it was my fourth attempt for the exam, and finally it was positive for me when computer screen showed me CONGRATULATION !!!
My study references includes
1. Bowen Class – Lectures and Home Work (practice it again and again ……….. again)
3. Bowen Practice Quizzes - Available under premium resources (great tool to practice – Keep practice it again and again ……….. again)
4. OSHA Chemical Specific Standards.
5. Industrial Hygiene Reference and Study Guide - By Allan K. Fleeger & Dean L Lillquist
Key Points -
1. Carry your calculator
2. Keep energy level high during exam period
3. Short break during exam will help to relieve the stress

Everyone who succeeded in exam have mentioned one common thought that "Don't Give Up - Keep Going Ahead" and it was motivating me all the time.

I would like to thanks all who became my inspiration, RICK, Russell Bowen , Komal S., Milan P. and all who have shared their experiences on CIH Logistic Forum.

I took my exam today for the first time and did not pass! I am already in the process of preparing for the fall. I followed all the test tips mentioned before. The hardest part for me was the toxicology. There were multiple diseases and causes I was unaware of. As someone stated before be familiar with different industries it will help with toxicology. The math was not as challenging as I expected. Most of the questions for me were related to ventilation and noise. The tools I used to study were the quizzes, daily questions, TLV book and the app. I definitely need to spend more time preparing and learning about the different metals and causes of diseases. With more studying I will get it next time.

I am happy to say that the Bowen CIH on-line exam review has yet another successful story. The format of the classes and the pace helped organized my study plan and kept me on track. Not only did I obtain a certification I also became a more well rounded IH than I was before I started.
To prepare, for the exam I used the Bowen course materials (and listened to the courses given by Russ twice), practice questions and the TLV book. I did find the Industrial-Occupational Hygiene Calculations: A Professional Reference handy to understand the concepts behind the equations. I had the Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene (B. Plog) book but did not use it.

What bit I can add is that if you've not been exposed to too many industries I would take some time reviewing some of the more common industries/tasks and their potential hazards such as electroplating, foundries, welding, semiconductors, plastics, painting, oil & gas, etc.

Lastly, this (CIH Exam Logistics)forum is great. It helps to know that you are not alone in exam preparation and the highs & lows of the exam results. There is great advice and inspiration within this forum. I especially found inspiration in those that did not pass the exam the first time, picked themselves up, and took it again.
Thanks for the journey Bowen and fellow CIH candidates/ CIHs!

What a great sigh of relief to see the "Congratulations" page on the screen after submitting the exam today. I want to thank Russ and Rick (and the entire Bowen staff) for all the study material and coursework that has been developed for preparation of the exam.

I took the exam and the preliminary results state I passed. It's been a long road. I took the Bowen course in January of 2014. I first took the exam in November 2014 and I missed it by 14 points. I was heartbroken, but I didn't quit. I saved all the recordings from Rick's course and I listened to them again. I also went through all the homework and quizzes several times until things became second nature. I also made sure that I understood the TLV guide. It really paid off. The test is extremely difficult but thank God it's over now. It is an awesome accomplishment and I am still smiling!!!!

I took the test today and received preliminary pass! I am still in shock! What a journey! I took the Bowen class in September and tried to study at least 1 hour a night since then. I also listened to the class recordings twice, completed the practice quizzes at least three times each, studied and took notes on the TLV guide book, and used quizlet. I read the Fleeger book, but I don't think anything sank in. I also have to say the test is tough! There were a few times during the test I wanted to quit, but I kept hearing Rick's voice saying "the test will kick you in the gut, but keep going you can do it." I can't thank Bowen enough! Without your guidance I would have been lost. Thank you so much!!!

I deeply appreciate from the bottom of my heart for all the CIH materials provided online by Bowen EHS to help me pass the exam. Without Bowen materials, as an Asian with poor English, I think I probably won't be able to pass the exam!

I took the CIH for the first time yesterday and got the preliminary pass! I would like to say thank you to Russ and Bowen EHS for doing such a great job putting this prep course together. The course and Bowen study material helped me to have a very well structured way to prepare myself for the CIH exam. Rick Supples did an excellent job presenting the material.

I would say understating the principals of industrial hygiene is the key for success in the CIH exam. Always, keep the control hierarchy in mind when preparing for the exam and answering the questions. Good luck!

I am proud to say that I received the ABIH preliminary pass this morning for the CIH exam! A HUGE thanks goes out to Russ, Dave, Otto, and the Bowen team for putting together a recipe for success. This is my second go around with Bowen, as late last year I took the CSP online review and then passed the CSP exam last fall.

This was my second time taking the exam (first attempt was in 2008 with no Bowen). I truly believe that the course material (listening to lectures, practice problems, and homework) were the key for my passing. I also agree with the others that Datachem really is not needed to pass.

Take the break and breath and just quiet your mind. I took about 40 minutes and ate an energy bar and hung out in my truck..the second half of the exam was better for me than the first. I felt like the first section beat me up at times...but I dragged myself up off of the mat and kept swinging!

Best wishes to everyone and thanks to my classmates as well! YOU CAN DO IT!!"

Well this time I got that CONGRATULATIONS notice. It pays to try and try again, What I found most helpful it the highlighting function in the test. As I read the question I would highlight things as I do in a text book. This helped me catch those tricky words that appear from time to time plus it also helped me keep my units straight.

Hi Russ, I sat for the CIH exam for the first time, and I passed. This was based on my prelim results. Yet to receive the official results from ABIH. Thanks for your courses, it helped. I am so happy!

Thanks to Russ Bowen and Mike Edens, who made time in their calendar and came to the home of one of North America's longest running cohort studies, and a level 4 laboratory arriving in the short window between winter and when mosquitoes are sufficiently large to carry off any transported gear to present to a significant sample of local and wider traveled prospective CIH candidates regaling us with a precise curriculum of most excellent industrial hygiene review, made relevant with references to Three Mile Island, Douglas Adams and Arlo Guthrie.

What a relief to see the preliminary pass at the end of the exam. To reiterate the common theme from others who recently is all about practice (practice exams, Bowen course quizzes, Bowen questions and of course the review materials).

I attended the CIH prep course last March and wanted to let you know how much I appreciated it.  Not only did the course play a major factor in passing the CIH exam, but I learned many things that I can use to build the IH program at my company.  Thanks again!

Passed CIH! I received my preliminary pass yesterday! Just wanted to thank the instructors and other students in my course for the help! Thank you David Abrams and Otto for you expertise and thorough instruction!

Hi Everyone, I got a preliminary pass for the CIH exam today and am excited to anticipate the ‘official’ result in the mail...
I would like to say a big ‘thank you’ to my wife and daughter for the support and also from relieving me of the regular duties for the long eight months. Additionally, a big thank you goes out to Dave, Otto, Russ, and Bowen EHS. The journey would be much more difficult without your support and expertise.

Took the CIH exam yesterday. I got a preliminary pass. My advice is to make sure you can do the Bowen Quiz calculations from the equation sheet. Memorize the Bowen Study guide. Memorize the TLV Book. And Read Plog two times and memorize the facts. Skip Datachem. Fleeger would be good, but it's filled with errors. Skip the White Book.

Well more than I care to say on how many times I have encountered this exam let's say after several attempts, I got the preliminary pass yesterday!!!!

Thank you Russ for your words of encouragement and strategy was right on and you believed I could do it!!!!! To the instructors Dave and Rick S. from previous courses, Thank you!!!!

I am so thrilled!!!!! To all the examinees go over and over the information in little increments no more than an hour a day, cramming does nothing but create anxiety. The day before the exam I barely looked at any material. I hung out with my family and kids since they are on Spring Break and did my best not to think about the exam.

Here is the most important advice I can give everyone!! This is not just knowing the material, we all have gotten to this point because we know the material we are just fine tuning the IH knowledge this is mental game. I used a lot of the techniques that athletes use to get where they are. Do not let the fear of failing get in your way. Several days before I used imagery to remain focused. Whenever I felt doubt I pictured the screen on the computer stating Congratulations!!! Over and Over again. Walk in like a fighter ready to go. Do you think Michael Jordan was concerned about failing? No way man! Not an option, just play the game like you know and kick butt!!!!!
