Passed ASP! Thanks to the Bowen group for helping me get through this first step along the way to the CSP! I am taking a week off and then get ready to take CSP in January or February.
The first 10 questions of this test had me thinking that I had studied the wrong material. I used the Bowen material, SPAN CertBook and BCSP Self Assessment to study no Brauer. There were some formulas provided but in my exam you needed 2 formulas to figure out the problems and they only provided 1 so knowing the formulas will get you a couple of problems, I only had about 10 problems where I needed to use formulas, don't assume you will get the formulas.
The bulk of the test was MS Safety, Security, Emergency Management, Risk Management, Ergo some Environmental, Some IH and Some Math.
My advice: make sure you understand what standard deviation, mean and normal distribution is not just how to calculate it, understand ergonomics tools like NIOSH equation, what it is used for and how it is different from other ergo tools like REBA and RULA and come prepared to answer allot of questions of select the BEST answer.

Thank God I passed my ASP9 Exam (two days ago)!
I would say the exam was a little intense. There were some areas I was not familiar with or terms I had not seen before (however, I only did only use the Bowen Course and did not use any other study material. So NO Brauer, Yates or Datachem for me). I also had less than 10 math problems on the exam. The test covered mostly management (a lot), electrical safety, fire systems, fire prevention and protection, IH, toxicology, risk management and safety programs. The exam question format was also a little different from Bowen’s question format. My advice is that Bowen Course along with its resources on the site is very helpful. I am someone with only one year of direct safety experience so I was a little afraid on how I would do on the exam.
My study regimen for two months:
- Listened to Instructor Jon Wallace’s lectures in my car on the way to work
- Studied my 300 flashcards several times through the week (Quizlet can help with this)
- Did quizzes from the Bowen app on my lunch break
- Did practice problems and quizzes when I got home from work
- Went on study marathons and did practice test on weekends (this will help you build your stamina for the exam)
- Used the Bowen study sessions to help with material I did not understand
- Most importantly, purchase the BCSP Assessment. This really helped me identify my weakness and focus on those areas.

*** My last piece of advice- It is not about choosing the “right” answer (because they all sound right sometimes) but choosing the “best answer; if that makes any sense. That helped me on a lot of problems.

Well good luck to everyone taking the exam!

Just want to thank Bowen EHS, for the valuable support and materials that help me thru my journey to becoming a Certified Safety Professional. I passed the exam yesterday and it was just a very big relief. After spending almost 3 years to prepare and write the ASP and CSP. I wrote the CSP 3 good times after which I finally passing it just yesterday. I didn't just give up I know is not over until it is over. Specially want to thank all the BOWEN family and most especially Colleen Eubanks for being a wonderful Instructor. Thank you Bowen!

I passed the ASP! It feels so good to have this behind me! I started studying casually back in March by going through the Yates book and making flashcards. I participated in the Bowen ASP online review course in July. The Bowen course is great for taking you through the basics of what you should know to be able to successfully take the exam. As others have mentioned you definitely need to draw on other sources as well. I went through all of the practice questions in the Span Safety workbooks. The nice thing about them is that they give detailed explanations for each answer. I made flashcards for new information that was not present in the Yates book or Bowen course. If you are familiar with the content from all three sources you should be able to pass the exam. A few days before taking the test, I took the “make-up” final exam from the Bowen course and also went through 50 questions from the Bowen quiz app.

I have less than three years of safety experience under my belt. When I first started this process I was completely overwhelmed. If I can do this you can too!

I was successful in CSP8 exam yesterday, it seemed easier than the ASP9 exam I had last month. Thanks to Bowen tutors for providing this platform. As always, most of the questions were on Risk Management Theories, Learning Theories,Training, Health and Safety Management Systems, Auditing, Fire Pump Calculations, Project Management and System Safety. I concentrated on the above in preparing for the exam because of my tight schedules and it worked.

I passed the ASP after completing the ASP-CSP prep course! Reading prior posts was very helpful in developing a study strategy. I used three resources Prep Course materials (recordings, homeworks, final exam), ASP Practice Exam, and Brauer Book. The final exam from the prep course as well as the ASP practice exam were very similar to the questions that I saw with a few pretty much identical. On to the CSP!

I took my ASP today and was greatly relieved to see "passed" on my print out!! While there weren't as many math calculations that I thought there might be, the ones that were on there weren't easy. I purchased the ASP practice exam and it was a great help. I also read the Brauer book, took Bowen's quizzes, and studied the materials from the Bowen classes! Thanks to all who posted because that helped me a lot focusing on what major areas to study. Now to the CSP before the end of the year. A special thanks to Mike Edens for great prep classes!!

I am so frustrated! I have taken the CSP twice now (about a month apart). I missed it by 3% (one question) this time and 9% the first time. However, the second time, I did much better in all sections, which is a good sign. However, the second section keeps knocking me out of the "pass". HOWEVER, a third time is a charm!! I was sick both times, too. Amazing how that tends to work out!
I took the ASP-CSP course and did very well, and then studied for several months through hundreds of practice quizzes, homework, etc. I even purchased the ASP and CSP practice exams. I felt I knew the content very well. However, the system safety seems to get me. I guess it's because I don't work with it very much in my job. That is my focus now.

I passed ASP 8 today.....the previous version with 4 domains..!
It was not a simple exam...question pattern was quite far from what we learned with Bowen EHS and found in literature elsewhere....However, base is same and the Bowen EHS class was very very useful. It revealed that one has to read material and books thoroughly with clear understanding. I had prepared with the least resources but, I feel my experience worked well in capturing lot many tricky answers. It gave me an insight for how to prepare for CSP. Thanks to the team of Bowen EHS for excellent support. Looking forward for CSP guidelines.

After procrastinating for almost a year, I finally took and passed the CSP today! As stated previously, there were a lot of management, training, and system safety questions. More than I expected. I reviewed all of the lectures 3 times as recommended, homework/final/quizzes multiple times, the Self-Assessment and the Brauer book. My advice is not to wait as long as I did, take the exam a couple months after you complete the course.

I passed the CSP Exam yesterday. I honestly felt that the CSP exam was not as challenging as the ASP. Yes, the questions were more involved, but you could reason them out and I was happy to see less math. I re-listened to each of the Bowen recordings from my ASP prep course and I really found them to be valuable. Focus on my exam was training, safety management and analysis more than anything else. Thanks to Bowen, ASP and CSP down, now on to the CET?

I passed the CSP today!!!! I reviewed the Bowen ASP online materiel and of course Brauer. There were questions on Safety management,IH,training ventilation, engineering economics and some "what would you do "scenarios". The exam is not a "gimme" by on means, but if you apply what you have learned from this site and have faith in yourself the test can be passed. Thank you Jon and all the Bowen staff.

CSP Success! Definitely glad I hit the management systems, analysis tools, IH and training. I did a slow careful rereading of the last handful of Brauer's chapters the week of. Other than that I went through the class materials binder, made flash cards of stuff I didn't know, and leaned on my IH background (but the IH content Bowen selected was more than adequate and turned out to be very relevant).
I read this message board, which both freaked me out a little but helped me change my last minute cramming to make it as effective as possible. Thanks everyone for your help!
Also, I went to the test center and realized the parking situation was a nightmare, so I didn't waste time driving through all the reserved spots in the lot and parked up the block. Almost didn't go (it was the day before, after work, and raining) but I'm glad I did!

I'd like to share that with the help of the Bowen ASP/CSP prep course I was able to test and pass both the ASP and CSP within 2 weeks of each other. I did view the class videos twice and went through every review question on the site. While I had 130 minutes remaining for the ASP I burned the clock down to 40 minutes remaining for the CSP. I highly recommend following all of the instruction and techniques this course recommends; I used them all and they worked! Good luck everyone, you're taking one of the best prep courses!

ASP Down, CSP Next
I sat for my ASP and had version ASP9. It was quite the marathon exam! There were stretches of questions that were fairly easy and straightforward to read and answer. Then there were questions with answers that were rather lengthy and my mind started to space out. I literally had to re-read some of the questions 5+ times to decipher what the question was really asking. There was not as much math as I expected, but there was at least one question about everything we covered in the review course. It took me just over 3 hours to complete the exam without stopping for a break. I flagged all of the math questions and 3 non-math questions that I wanted to ponder a little longer. Once I made it through all 200 questions, I went back to tackle the math. I did not bother reviewing the exam questions a second time, I have learned that I am better off to never second guess my initial answer choice. I had a panic moment when I clicked submit to finish the exam and did not get a screen that said PASS or FAIL. At my test center I had to exit the computer room and the proctor had my exam result printed for me after exiting the room. It was a glorious feeling on top of the mental fatigue.
Thank you, Mike! I enjoyed the Bowen review course and you were are a fantastic instructor.

Just passed the ASP exam. Started almost from scratch, only really knew about math, physics, and radiation when I started. I remember thinking "uh-oh" when I decided to go for it and saw how much material was involved. Now its done and off to work on the CSP. Some people tell me its harder, some say its easier, so.. we'll see I suppose.
What I did to get me from near zero to feeling confident (and passing) was as follows: Purchased SPAN ASP workbook set and the Brauer book in April, started with those two. Worked all the practice problems in the SPAN books (~1000+) and read Brauer from cover to cover. Took the Bowen ASP online course starting late July, and then took the BCSP assessment exam early August. Late August I reworked for the second time all 1000+ SPAN problems, the BCSP exam problems, and all the Bowen homeworks. Noticed improvement, and wrote a brief note about all problems missed on the second pass on a 3x5 card which I used as flashcards. Took the exam 3 days after the last Bowen class.
Even after working all those problems, I still came across some stuff I just straight up did not recall hearing/reading about. As with the studying, on the test, for the math my advice is always carry the units through and make sure they match the final answer's units. Seriously, even if you think "Oh I've got this one" just do it. Going back and adding in the units has helped me over and over and over again.
Thanks Bowen, and best of luck to all of you!

I took the ASP exam and I still can't believe that I passed! This was my second time taking it and I felt that I was much more prepared this time after taking the online review with Bowen ( first time I studied on my own). There was at least one question about everything we reviewed during the classes however there were not too many questions with calculations, most of them were subjective, for you to think and choose and answer. Most of those questions I felt that the answers looked quite tricky and sometimes I would eliminate 2 answers and still have to choose between 2 very similar. The ones with calculations they did provide the formulas but sometimes they would give more variables and formulas than you really needed, which can make you confused. During the exam I felt that I did focus my study much more on the questions with calculations like ventilation and engineering economics and that I missed studying harder things like biological hazards, diseases, exposure to chemicals, Safety training and programs, ISO standards, project management....and these questions kept on popping up....
So my tip is to read the material all over again and practice A LOT all the home works. One thing that really helped me was to do the questions provided on Bowen's Member Center with exams from past years. I did a lot of them. Hope I could help and good luck to all of you!

Passed CSP!!! I am pleased to report that a coworker and I both passed the CSP exam yesterday! What a relief to click on submit and see "Pass" appear! Around question 170 the adrenaline really started pumping and I had to refocus myself on the question in front of me and not what was going to happen at the end.
Test prep included re-watching Colleen's ASP lectures on some of my weaker subjects (Noise, Ventilation, Fire, Engineering Economy); Brauer book is a great resource for helping to understand tougher subjects; lots of review questions; I recommend getting the self assessment (did it twice); and finally, Youtube (particularly Khan Academy for present/future value of $) has some good video lectures for tougher subjects.
Good luck everyone! If a knucklehead like me can do it, you can!
